Liam is no longer intubated

Liam was intubated before his surgery yesterday. Well, this morning he was doing well enough that the doctors decided to take it out already! He is back to wearing his CPAP which means he is breathing in his own air under slight pressure so his lungs don't have to work too hard. They put the cap back on his head because he hates having the prongs in his nose and prefers the CPAP mask covering his nose. He likes to knock the prongs out which just end up poking him in the eye.

He immediately fell back to sleep once the tube was out. He is such a trooper.

Last night Allison was able to change two diapers which made her day! He even peed on her and she could have cared less. So far is he able to empty his bladder on his own which is another wonderful blessing.

The nurses are letting us do more around bedside with him like taking his temp, changing diapers, oral care, etc. We are learning as much as we can. We are in complete awe of him.

All of the doctors and nurses are so impressed with how strong he is and how well he has handled everything. They said he just needs to focus on getting bigger.  They even tell us that we can hold him now with his CPAP on! We have been waiting for this moment since he was born! We can't wait.

Allison, Make sure you get some rest and let Ian push you around the halls. You need your strength to hold that precious baby. Let us know if we can do anything for you back home.
